I vividly recall when I first heard about Google Chrome. It was an exciting product to use for numerous reasons, it was constantly evolving, it was very fast, the design was minimalistic…in general it was just a fresh and exciting way to view the web.
Fast-forward to today. While Chrome has done wonders for the “development of Web Development” (specifically JavaScript and DevTools) the browser itself has become a hulking behemoth. In fact, let me pull up Activity Monitor real quick on OS X…wow. Collectively, Google Chrome and all of its helpers are using close to 3.5 GB of RAM. That is more than the Finder, Window Manager and kernel_task combined! This madness has to stop. I understand that Google is really pushing Chrome OS and the fact that it can now run certain Android Applications (which, granted, is pretty cool), but users of Google Chrome the web browser should no longer have to suffer.
Vivaldi seems like a very interesting alternative. I hope it lasts.
Totally agree. I was excited about Chrome but now it consumes a lot of RAM. It has done amazing things but it has sacrificed memory because of it.
I think this won’t change with vivaldi. Vivaldi use chromium, so i think it will need the same amount of ram like google chrome.
chrome browser is very powerful so every one can run many things in it. yet, for the pleasure of browsing lightly and faster, i wish vivaldi can be the right browser for this purpose. many users actually love and demand the browser that can be used only as a browser; with less extension/add-on/anything that can make the browser bloated.
